Areta Williams began her love for international school leadership when upon graduating college, she traveled to Nigeria where she taught in a teacher training institution. Since then, she has lived and worked in schools in many countries including Nigeria, Nepal, Ethiopia, Italy, Indonesia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Japan. She served as a head of school for a combined 19 years at The American School of Yaounde, Cameroon, The International School of Kenya, The Overseas School of Colombo, Sri Lanka and The American School in Japan.
While living in Africa, Ms. Williams was active in the Association of International Schools in Kenya, and worked with various school boards in Africa as a board trainer. She also worked as an accreditation team member with MSA and CIS.
Ms. Williams is now resides part time in Portland, Oregon and Incline Village, Nevada with her partner, Rob Armstrong. She loves spending time with her two grown children, who are both graduates of the Jakarta International (now Intercultural) School, and three grandchildren.
In her spare time, Ms. Williams enjoys the outdoors and spends time every week on Mt. Tabor, an extinct volcano in her neighborhood in Portland. She also enjoys exploring the many sights and cultural events in Portland and traveling elsewhere.
